Example 2 : Proposal of double-doors for refrigerated containers to prevent
temperature rise.
Request :
A food-trading company B had a problem in that the temperatures in pre-cooled
containers would rise because the arrangement of the store prevented the containers'
being placed so that they opened directly onto the inlet port of the cold store.
Nevertheless, cargo was handled with the container doors kept open. We were asked
to study the situation and work out a way to reduce the temperature rise.
Results :
It was proposed to add inside doors, which were easily handled, in the refrigerated containers. Comparative tests were carried out for conventional containers and the new ones with inside doors. The results proved that, in the containers with inside doors, the preset low temperature could be maintained without affecting cargo-handling efficiency.
