Shipboard Wind Turbine Generator

The generator consists of a huge straight wing and vertical column type windmill with a size of 4 meters in diameter and 4.5 meters in height.
This is one of the most powerful generators for a vessel with the generating capacity of approximately 30 kw when a ship is navigating to the wind force of 25 meters per hour. Electricity generated is supplied to power a part of a ship's power requirements.

Exhaust Dust Cleaner

Particulate matter contained in exhaust gas can be significantly reduced by using the Soot/smoke Removing Device. The device consists of a combination of various filters to achieve better soot collection capacity.
The device has been developed for diesel generators, and is equipped on car carriers at present.

Water Emulsion Fuel-Combustion Equipment

This equipment burns a fuel compound composed of a mixture of water and heavy oil (water emulsion fuel) in a boiler.
The combustibility of heavy oil in water is higher compared to when heavy oil is burned on its own, which leads to a reduction of fuel consumption. This is environmentally friendly equipment since water emulsion fuel can burn almost completely, and thus emits cleaner exhaust gas (reduction in CO2 and NOx emissions).
Since the product was unveiled in September 2005, it has received a very positive response from many business sectors.

Cargo Securing Manual and Related Software

We provide services for the production of cargo securing manuals, which are required to be furnished to every cargo ship except bulk carriers. Our services consist of a full range of support from the production of the cargo securing manuals, acquisition of the document approval from the association of classification societies, and the printing of the required number of the manual. The manual we prepare applies to the vessel classification of NK, LRS, DNV and ABS. The manual for other classification societies can be prepared upon request.

Internet Fleet Remote Monitoring System "i-FROM" for overseas vessels

This system monitors the movements of marine vessels on the website by automatically obtaining the positions of the vessels using the Inmarsat-C equipment equipped on a ship. Our customers appreciate the system's convenient feature because the system enables them to confirm the positions of their vessels easily from anywhere with a personal computer connected to the Internet.

Internet Fleet Remote Monitoring System "i-FROM" for domestic vessels

This system tracks the movements of a ship on the website by obtaining the positions of the ship automatically via the Orbcomm communication terminal installed on the ship. The system obtains the position of a ship automatically using the Orbcomm communication terminal that is capable of transmitting the position information periodically. Our domestic fleet operator customers appreciate the system's convenient feature because the system enables them to confirm the position of their vessels easily from anywhere with a personal computer connected to the Internet.

Water bag

To meet the increasing global demand for fresh water, MTI has developed large-scale bags for the transportation of fresh water.

Hold Protection Sheet System

This system, which is installed in holds before loading, reduces contamination after the unloading of bulk cement.
Easy installment and uninstallment characterizes this large-scale system that covers the entire hold wall.
Since the news release of January 2006, we have steadily been receiving inquiries about the sheet system from the cement market and from other bulk markets, where the sheet system is highly regarded.

Monohakobi for land transport
Cargo Environment-Measuring Service

The service consists of the measurement of temperature, humidity and shock by attaching measuring instruments to a container or cargo.
You can obtain transport environment data of cargo quantitatively.
The data can be effectively used to improve packing methods and to investigate possible causes of damage.

Logistics Technology Handbooks

The handbooks describe the internal environment of a container in transportation. MTI, the laboratory of NYK, has assembled knowhow in two handbooks that the company has accumulated over many years of shipping operation.
The handbooks are full of useful information for customers who have trouble with damage to the cargoes during transportation.

Condensation Terminator Sheets "CT-Sheets"

The CT Sheet prevents cargos getting damaged by moisture by avoiding the dripping of condensation formed on the ceiling of ocean containers. The distinctive features of this product are that it is easy to attach and detach, has superior water absorbing power, and the container does not need to be cleaned after removing the sheet. Since it was commercially released in 1999, the product has won popularity amongst companies involved in the production and transportation of food.

Shock Absorbing Pallet

Shock absorbing pallets protect cargoes from vibration and impact shock that occurs during the transportation and handling of cargoes.
Shock absorbing rubber specifically developed for transportation related shock absorption demonstrates superior shock absorbing capability for every transportation mode from land, ocean and air transport.
The product has been used for the transportation of material highly sensitive to vibration and impact shock such as glass products and precision equipment.

RFID Logistics Systems

You can control and share the location information of cargoes in a warehouse in real time.
While moving cargoes with a fork lift, you can update the database automatically without spending time to input the work performed. The system helps reduce work time and prevent errors.

Hemp-Sack Logistics Management System

This breakthrough system can solve most of the problems that have attended the logistical use of hemp sacks.
The Hemp-Sack Logistics Management System uses QR code labels to prevent shipping mistakes and thereby makes logistics and field operations more efficient.

Cargo Measurements Database on Transport Conditions " Mr.CES"

You can use this service to read from the Internet website the past typical data on temperature and shock measured from inside the containers during transportation.
The data have been accumulated since 1987.
The database is useful to collect information for preliminary research for new shipping or improvements in packing.

Vanning Plan system "ESP21"

ESP 21 is software to make a basic plan for loading cargoes into a container.
The software can be used with a personal computer connected to the Internet, and the created plan can be output in PDF format.
Since 2005, the software has been used by logistics and transportation related companies as a tool to create effective loading plans.

Monohakobi for air transport
Air Ship

An airship is a means of transportation, awoken from half a century long sleep to be revived using new technologies.
An airship is a means of transportation mode that can move between two points anywhere on the earth freely with the same speed of a bullet train, SHINKANSEN.
An airship was delivered to NYK by Zeppelin Luftschiffte GmbH of Germany in June 2004, and has been flying the skies of Japan since January 2005.

Monohakobi consulting service
Consultation on the Transport of Containerized Cargo

We can assist our customers by freeing them from the anxieties that attend cargo transport, for example, by clarifying the cause of any damage that might occur in the course of container transport and proposing countermeasures.
We have experience providing consultancy services in a wide variety of fields.

Multi Cargo Simulator
Multi Cargo Simulator for Shock and Vibration

We conduct for our customers various simulation tests for shock and vibration, and for temperature and humidity using a large scale 3D Physical Axial System and Atmospheric Environmental System. The simulation can be used for the study of the most appropriate stowing and packing methods of cargo with actual vibration patterns in transportation. The system can simulate the same seismic waves as the South Hyogo prefecture Earthquake which occurred in 1995.

Since Multi Cargo Simulator started its operation in 1995, it has been used not only for multi cargo simulation but also for anti-quake tests for precision instruments and furniture, etc.

Research & Development
Lashing@Sea

Joint Industry Project for Lashing on Ships, hosted by MARIN, the Netherlands.

Human Development
Outline

MTI designs, plans and implements education and training programs for the employees of Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and affiliated companies. The content of these programs are roughly divided between "NYK Business College" for those who work in offices onshore and "NYK Maritime Collage" for sea crews who work on vessels.

NYK Business College

This is a general designation for training programs aimed at the development of business leaders whose high levels of expertise and broad perspectives enable them to pursue active roles in the world.

NYK Maritime College

Establishing the requisite shore based training and onboard training, both in accordance with NYK Requirements (the knowledge and skills required for seafarers aboard the NYK fleet), NYK Maritime College provides unified education and training to all seafarers in the NYK fleet, regardless of nationality.
These educational and training activities cultivate human resources that compose the future of the NYK group, which in turn contributes to the safe operation of the entire NYK fleets.
