Solutions/Services

Environmental Conservation and Energy-Saving Technology

MTI is developing new technologies to cut back on CO2 emissions, as it is viewed to be one of the leading causes of global warming. Other environmental and energy issues, such as the expected controls of NOx and SOx emissions, will be addressed as well. The fuel-consumption gauge and energy-saving methods developed last year will be followed by research projects for new hull forms, new engine systems (hybrid propulsion, exhaust-heat recovery, new type of control governor, and solar photovoltaic power generation), marine fuel cells, and storage batteries.
MTI is also attempting to develop a ballast water treatment system in anticipation of the official guidelines to be imposed soon.

Ship-Operating Technology

MTI is engaged in R&D projects for new lashing and twist-lock systems in pursuit of safe and efficient navigation and cargo handling.
MTI is also actively trying to build a system of onshore operational support, including the introduction and upgrading of fuel-consumption gauges.

Consultation on Quality Transport

With unsurpassed capability for high-quality transportation services acquired from years of experience investigating and eliminating the causes of damage done to cargo during transit, MTI continues to be committed to various technical-development initiatives. For instance, MTI has invested in creating software that will allow for container-temperature simulations. In addition, MTI will expand transport-consulting activities worldwide, backed by extensive knowledge and experience.

RFID Logistics Solutions

IC tags, an excellent device in terms of tracking objects and communicating data, are increasingly being used in the field of logistics. MTI has been providing IC tags, related systems, and consulting services to customers throughout the world. So far, the cumulative total number of IC tags MTI has procured and shipped has surpassed 1.5 million units.
The introduction of IC tags is expected to contribute greatly to the traceability of goods and to the efficiency of logistics systems. MTI will actively make proposals and attempt technical innovations to help improve customers' logistical operations.
In the logistics industry, where the effects of globalization are often magnified, the standardization of IC tag utilization is an urgent necessity. Thus, as a co-chair organization of the EPCglobal working group on logistics, MTI is actively involved in drafting standards for IC tag utilization.

Multi-Cargo Simulator (MCS): For Earthquake-Resistance Tests

MTI performs various vibration tests with a large tri-axial shaking table and performs temperature/humidity tests in a large chamber that reproduces temperature/humidity environments.

The tri-axial shaking table realistically reproduces vibrations, impacts, and oscillations that cargo in transit may encounter. It is also able to reproduce such seismic motions as experienced in the devastating earthquake that hit southern Hyogo Prefecture. It provides accurate and reliable data for verifying optimal packing and stowing methods for cargo.

The environment-reproducing chamber, which can reproduce temperatures ranging from minus 15°C to plus 80°C, is used in assessment tests of thermal resistance for cargo in transit.

MTI website's unique features

MTI's original unit-conversion tools, jigsaw puzzles, and soot-dust-sweeper games are some of the enjoyable features on MTI's website.
