Message from the President

In March 2023, the NYK Group announced its medium-term management plan, “Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026 – A Passion for Planetary Wellbeing,” which runs through fiscal 2026. The plan outlines the NYK Group’s policy to “go beyond the scope of a comprehensive global logistics enterprise to co-create value required for the future by advancing our core business and growing new ones.” Recognizing that we are now at a major historical turning point, we will backcast from the ideal state of the NYK Group in 2050, and, with ESG management at the core, actively promote digitalization and decarbonization with diverse human resources to deepen our core businesses and expand new businesses.

In achieving this management plan, data collection, analysis, and application through the promotion of digitalization will be the foundation for transformation, and the discovery, development, and early implementation of new technologies are also required. Since the times of MTI’s predecessor company, NYK Logistics Technology Institute, we have been involved in scientific analysis of monohakobi, collecting, accumulating, and analyzing data in order to provide higher value to our customers. We are working on further visualization of monohakobi, utilizing the vast amount of data we have accumulated to date and advanced analytical methods. As a group of professionals who know the sea and ships, we will promote open innovation with all stakeholders in the maritime industry, develop new technologies and commit to decarbonization under the slogan of safety and environment, and contribute to the achievement of the NYK Group’s medium-term management plan.

To achieve this objective, we have established the NYK/MTI R&D Roadmap. With DX (digital transformation), EX (energy transformation), and CX (corporate transformation) at the core, we will contribute to the development of new businesses and the deepening of existing businesses of the NYK Group, including safe vessel operation, GHG emissions reduction, and challenges in the energy field – all while working on technological development related to logistics and associated activities. Our commitment to the promotion of ESG management will be shared with every staff member in our company, and we will work together as a company.

We will contribute to the entire global maritime industry and take on the challenge of creating new value by implementing “Innovation Together,” not only within the NYK Group, and realizing “Make the Innovation.”
