Message from the President

MTI Co., Ltd. is a strategic subsidiary of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), taking a key role in the technological research and development field. In recent years, with global warming as a background, regulations on exhaust gas from ocean-going ships have been gradually strengthened in the international maritime industry, and thus we are increasingly required to review our stance and improve activities toward environment, safety, and economics. In that situation, MTI was established on April 1, 2004, to utilize technologies and the human resources of monohakobi in ways that realize customers’ satisfaction and contribute to the global environment.

In NYK’s new medium-term management plan, “Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green,” begun in April 2018 and designed to span the next five years, NYK announced its policy of accelerating its growth by advancing its activities with a focus particularly on the keywords digitalization and green. This new challenge is to optimize the entire supply chain as well as to create innovative values in the field of environment. As a member of the NYK Group and by taking advantage of being close to actual shipping and logistics sites, we consider our mission is to provide optimum solutions for various tasks such as reducing environmental loads across an expanding range of logistics-technology fields that include vessel operations, safety, environment, energy saving, and more.

We promote most of our research projects in a wide range of collaborations, not only with Japanese shipbuilding companies, ship-machinery manufacturers, ClassNK, and research institutes, but also with overseas manufacturers, classification societies, universities, and IT vendors.

As a multifaceted team of monohakobi-technology professionals, we accept the
ever-advancing challenges to create and maximize the value of new technologies and services.

Kazuo Ishizuka
